Below are links to things that have been helpful to me, or that explain decisions I’ve made in my breeding program.

Breed Standards AKC ASCA

Breed standards are just that: standards by which Australian Shepherd breeders are to breed. We strive to produce dogs that exemplify the breed standard.

Australian Shepherd Personality and Character

This is probably the link I send the most often. I ask anyone considering the Australian Shepherd breed to read this article! It well explains the pros and cons to a thinking dog.

Puppy Class by Puppy Culture

This class is titled With Open Arms and a Level Head:  How to Bring a Puppy Into Your Life. It is made by the creators of the Puppy Culture program for raising well adjusted puppies. I have had glowing reports from those who have utilized this resource by watching the videos BEFORE their puppy arrives home. It is free at this time, so go sign up! It’s excellent information whether or not you’re bringing a puppy into your home in the foreseeable future.

Dewclaws (PDF)

This article explains why I do NOT remove the front dew claws on my pups. The dog uses them. I asked my vet how often dewclaws are torn and her response was, “No more often than any other nail.”

Here is a more detailed resource explaining the function of dewclaws and the benefits of keeping them.
